In preparation for our Inupiaq culture party, we found a game for the PS4 based on Inupiaq legend called Never Alone. The kids loved it, and insisted on sharing it with their friends.
Moira shared pictures from our trip to Alaska for her presentation.
The first activity was to make your own bola, the weapon used in Never Alone. There is an Inupiaq word for this, but they only mention it in one of the cut scenes of the game, and I have been unable to find it online.
There were also coloring pages drawn by an Inupiaq person. The adults were more interested in this then the kids were, I think.
The food was a tough sell for the kids, but most kids were willing to try a few new things.
The last activity was a series of arctic games. These are all to help kids learn hunting skills. This is the knee hop.
In this one, the kids tried to push each other forward with only their backs.
This one was the knuckle hop, useful for hunting seals. Moira really enjoyed this one. There were a bunch of other ones, but some of them got a little too violent.
