Planet hunt

A local homeschool school created a project where they put up sign boards all around the area to create a model solar system. We decided to go see as many planets as we could one Friday. We started where the school is, which is where they put the sun, and also the board for Planet Nine, which is recently discovered, and if they tried to place the board in the correct place to scale, it would be in Idaho.
Here are the kids standing in the center of the sun. Oh no!
Mercury was close enough that we decided to walk to it.We had a hard time finding it, because it had fallen over, but Moira eventually spotted it and the kids righted the sign.
Say Mercury!
We had considered walking to Venus and Earth too, but it started raining at Mercury and only Sammy had her coat, so we ran back to the car and drove a little closer to their location. Venus was first.

Then Earth.
I didn't pack lunches for the kids and I so we stopped at Trader Joes (located near Venus) for supplies. Everyone picked out something and then we headed to a park near our next stop for a slightly damp picnic and some running.
Fun in a tree!
Mars!
Jupiter is near our house.
Everone got cranky all at once on our way to Saturn, just south of our house, so I decided that this would be our last planet of the day. I still hope that we might go on a hunt for the rest of the planets, and the dwarf planets.
